6 Package of face treatments: Aftercare Tips by Session
By The Moon Beauty | Facial Spa | November 2, 2026
If you’re coming in from Great Falls, McLean, Vienna, Reston, Herndon, Oakton, or Potomac, keep this page saved. It’s the simple aftercare that protects the glow you’re paying for.
The single most important rule after each session in your 6 Package of face treatments is this: protect your skin barrier and stay out of heat and sun. In practical terms, that usually means no makeup and no heavy sweating for 24 to 48 hours, pause retinoids and exfoliants for several days, wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning, and never pick at flaking or darkening spots. This matters in Great Falls, because our Mid-Atlantic seasons still deliver UV even when it feels cool outside.
The first 24 to 48 hours: keep it cool, clean, and boring
Right after a session, your skin tends to look a little flushed and feel extra “awake.” That’s normal, especially when we’re working on radiance, hydration, and overall skin clarity across multiple visits. The goal in the first two days is simple: calm inflammation, avoid friction, and don’t trap heat.
Quick rule of thumb: If it makes you hot, red, or sweaty, skip it for 24 to 48 hours.
Do this (it’s what keeps results consistent session to session)
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm water. No scrubs, no cleansing brushes.
- Use a cool compress if you feel warm or puffy. Walker Road commuters love this tip because you can keep a clean gel pack in the car and use it once you’re home.
- Moisturize with a simple, fragrance-free hydrator.
- SPF 30+ every morning, even if it’s cloudy or you’re mostly indoors.
Avoid this (yes, even once can set you back)
- Makeup for 24 to 48 hours, especially heavy foundation. Your pores don’t need occlusion right now.
- Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and very hot workouts.
- Alcohol-based toners, retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and strong “active” products unless I’ve told you otherwise.
- Picking. If something darkens or flakes, that’s part of the process. Let it release naturally.
Days 3 to 7: the “don’t rush the actives” week (especially after IPL)
Most of the time, days 3 to 7 are when people get tempted to speed things up. That’s when irritation happens. If your plan includes IPL photofacial sessions as part of your 6-pack, this is also the window when you might notice pigment looking temporarily darker, or a little dry flaking around spots that are clearing. That “coffee-ground” look can be a normal step in IPL for sun damage and IPL for hyperpigmentation. I want you to protect that progress, not scrub it off.
Great Falls reality check: Mid-Atlantic weather changes fast. Even in October and through winter, UV still hits. Keep SPF consistent, and add hydration when heat kicks on indoors.
What I usually want you doing this week
- Stay gentle: cleanser, moisturizer, SPF. Keep it simple.
- Hydrate more than you think you need. Skin often feels tight before it looks dry.
- If you’re outside, add a hat. If you’re walking around Great Falls Park, a hat or UV umbrella is a small move that protects a lot of work.
Hold off on these until you’re calm again
Pause retinoids, exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA), strong vitamin C if it stings, and aggressive add-ons unless you’ve scheduled them intentionally. Timing matters, and I’ll place them in your series so your skin stays stable.
Between sessions: a simple routine that keeps your “glow” building
A 6-session plan works because results are cumulative. I see the biggest changes when you keep the in-between routine steady and skip the “new product experiment” phase. That’s true if your series is focused on hydration and radiance, acne-prone skin, or anti-aging support.
My go-to between-session basics
AM: gentle cleanse, moisturizer, broad-spectrum SPF 30+ (reapply if you’re outside).
PM: gentle cleanse, hydrating moisturizer. If you’re using actives, reintroduce them slowly and only when skin is fully calm.
Weekly: skip harsh scrubs. If you want extra smoothness, ask me what’s safe in your exact week of the series.
And yes, I get asked this a lot. If you’re searching for a facial, or even “IPL photofacial near me” and “microcurrent facial near me, ” the truth is the same: your home routine is what makes the professional work show up brighter and last longer.
If your package includes IPL, keep your follow-ups consistent. Many series are commonly spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart to let skin recover and keep results building. I’ll confirm your spacing based on your skin and what we’re targeting with IPL skin rejuvenation.

What’s normal after a session, and when I want you to reach out
I want you to feel taken care of, not left guessing. Mild redness, warmth, temporary tightness, slight swelling, and a little flaking can happen depending on what we did that day. If you had IPL in your plan, pigment can look darker before it clears.
Reach out to me if you notice: increasing pain (not just sensitivity), spreading redness, significant swelling that’s getting worse, blistering, or anything that feels “off” compared to what we discussed.
“From the moment I walked in, Mahtab’s warmth and professionalism made me feel completely at ease. Her expertise is unmatched… and explained each step with care and clarity.”
one of our long-time clients
Busy professionals and families tell me they love that they can keep aftercare simple after an evening appointment, then still enjoy weekend plans. Just keep sun protection strict for at least two weeks after each IPL facial session, especially if you’re outdoors in Great Falls or commuting through the brighter open roads around Walker Road.
Gentle next step: If you’re due for your next session and you’re not sure if your skin is ready, reach out. I’d rather adjust your timing than push through irritation.
